BOSTON/CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) posted qualifying efforts in three different events for the NCAA Division III New England Championship to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team today at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University's Track & Tennis Center in Boston, Mass. All of the meet's times over 60 meters reflect the banked track at BU.

The Lyons also had competitors at the Gordon Kelly Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass.

Peterson posted a time of 7.13 in the 60 meters non-invitational race for Wheaton, while recording a personal-record time of 22.43 in the 200 meters and placed eighth overall and second among Division III competitors with a leap of 6.71 meters.

Peterson was one of four Lyons to combine to qualify in six different events at New England's. Sophomore John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.) registered a time of 22.38 to qualify for the 200 meters and classmate Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) crossed the line at 8.63 to place eighth overall and third among D-III runners in the non-invitational 60-meter hurdles. Senior Matthew Cahill (Brewster, Mass.) joined Pinnix in qualifying with a time of 8.56 in the 60-meter hurdle invitational race to finish 23rd overall and fifth among Division III entries.

First year Ricardo Goncalves (Revere, Mass.) matched his personal-record time in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.08 in the non-invitational race for Wheaton.

A number of Lyons turned in personal-best times in the 200 and 400 meters at the Valentine Invitational. Senior Anthony Almas (Marstons Mills, Mass.) (22.67), senior Justin Hart (Queens, N.Y.) (23.25), first year GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) (23.43) and sophomore Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) (23.78) all posted personal-record marks in the 200 meters on the banked track. First year Nathan Plympton (East Greenwich, R.I.) recorded a time of 53.63 in the 400 meters for his best, followed by senior Graeme Wojtowicz (Hyannis, Mass.) at 54.14 and sophomore William Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) at 54.92 to establish personal-best records as well.

Sophomore Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) shined for Wheaton at the Kelly Invitational with a victory in the 3000 meters behind a time of 8:57.76. 

First year Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) placed fourth overall and second among Division III runners with a personal-record time of 4:42.83 in the mile for the Lyons and was followed by junior Matthew Lambert (Hampton, N.H.), who also recorded a personal-record time at 4:47.02 to place fifth overall and third among Division III. 

Senior Anthony Gatti (Scarborough, Maine) led Wheaton in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.97 to place seventh among D-III competitors.

Sophomore Joe Moses (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Lyons in the field with a personal-record indoor throw of 12.20 meters to place 17th overall and 12th among Division III entrants. He also finished 17th overall in the weight throw with a mark of 12.52 meters. Senior Kyle Monfredo's (Worcester, Mass.) best showing was in the weight throw with a throw of 12.41 meters to finish behind Moses in 18th place.

Wheaton returns to the track on Saturday, February 18 when it hosts the Pre-Post Season Invitational at 10:30 a.m.
