Men's Tennis Falls at Stonehill, 6-1

EASTON, Mass. -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's tennis team was defeated at host Stonehill College, 6-1, this afternoon at Charles Watt Tennis Courts in Easton, Mass. 

The Lyons fall to 1-2, while the Skyhawks improve to a perfect 6-0.

Senior Ethan Na (Simsbury, Conn.) picked up the lone point for Wheaton with a victory at second singles over first year Mark Kröll (Hollabrunn, Austria). After dropping the opening set, 6-0, Na, came back to win the second frame, 7-6 (2) and battled to an 11-9 win in the third set with the super tie-breaker.

Stonehill senior Christian Duffy (Dublin, Ireland) and Kröll earned a 6-3 win at number one doubles over the Lyon duo of senior Josh Anschuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and senior Jack Luyrink (Paxton, Mass.). Sophomore Guillaume Duhil de Bénazé (Paris, France) and senior Ben Simmons (Attleboro, Mass.) came away with a 6-1 decision at number two doubles for the home team over Na and junior Eli Hanlon (Branford, Conn.). The first year duo of Mathias Langaard (Oslo, Norway) and Nathaniel Graves (Sydney, Australia) completed the sweep in doubles play for Stonehill to gain the first team point of the match with a 6-1 win at number three over Wheaton senior Chris Register (Portland, Maine) and sophomore Daniel Bor (Seattle, Wash.).

Duffy gained his second win of the match as one of four double-winners for the Skyhawks with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) showing over Anschuetz. de Benaze gained a win at number three singles over Lyon senior Albert Ortega Campos (Marbella, Spain), 6-2, 6-2. 

Langaard came away with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at fourth singles over Hanlon and Graves earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Register at number five singles. Senior Luke Nickerson (Marshfield, Mass.) was also a victor for Stonehill with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luyrink.

Both teams will not play again until the second semster with Wheaton taking on Endicott College on Saturday, February 18 in Norton, Mass. and the Skyhawks hosting Boston University on February 4.
