Norton, Mass. - April 24, 2021 - Wheaton College men’s tennis fell to Clark University on Saturday afternoon in their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup by a score of 7-2. The loss puts the Lyons at 0-4, while the Cougars of Clark University improve to 2-2 on the year.
Clark took two out of three in the doubles matches, with Josh Anschuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Javier Esteban de Celis (Santa Cruz de la Sierra) collecting the Wheaton win with a tough 8-6 victory.
Wheaton’s only other victory of the day came at the hands of Anschuetz with a 6-4 and 6-3 sweep. Ian Tracy (San Jose, Costa Rica) and Esteban de Celis both battled hard, but came up short in the final third set in each of their matches.
Wheaton will return to action on Sunday, May 2 when they travel to Springfield in another NEWMAC contest. The match is set to start at 11 a.m.
