Box Score Norton, Mass. - April 24, 2021 - The Wheaton College men’s lacrosse fell in a close New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) battle with Clark University on Satuday afternoon, 10-6. The loss drops Wheaton to 0-2, while Clark improves to 2-1.
Wheaton’s senior Mike Abramo (Old Bethpage, N.Y.) opened the scoring in today’s game with a first quarter goal at the 15:00 mark. After Clark responded with two goals, first-year Liam Dillon (Duxbury, Mass.) knotted the contest up at two with a goal. After Clark once again scored two unanswered goals, Wheaton tied the game up at 4 with back to back goals from senior Tyler Brown-Ortiz.(Milford, Conn.) Brown-Ortiz would go on to score once more to complete his hat-trick, however Wheaton was unable to tie the game up as Clark went on to score 3 late, unanswered goals.
Wheaton’s Junior attack man Lou Mainella (Falmouth, Maine) also notched a goal and an assist on the day, while senior Troy Sliney (Bradford, Mass.) also tallied an assist and grabbed five ground balls. Junior midfielder Alex Berg (Southport, Conn.) lead the Lyons in shots with 11, five of which were on net. Senior goalie Neal Canastra (Dartmouth, Mass.) also made 13 saves on the day.
Wheaton awaits tournament seeding in the upcoming NEWMAC Men's Lacrosse tournament slated to begin on Saturday, May 1.
