Wellesley, Mass. – April 10, 2021 – The Wheaton College Men's Tennis team fell by a score of 8-1 to Babson College on Saturday morning. The Lyons are now 0-2 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play on the season.
After getting blanked by Babson two weeks ago, Wheaton had a stronger showing in the rematch of the two schools. In one-seeded doubles, Josh Anshuetz (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Javier Esteban de Celis (Santa de la Sierra) secured the first victory of the season for the Lyons by a score of 8-5. Wheaton lost the two other doubles matches each, 8-2.
The visiting Lyons were swept in the singles matches, but Jack Luyrink (Paxton, Mass.) and Ahad Javed (Irving, Texas) each hung tough in their first sets, pushing their opponents beyond the usual six games before both losing, 7-5.
Wheaton returns home to the court next Saturday, April 17 with a match against NEWMAC rival Coast Guard Academy at 10:30 a.m.
