Men's Tennis Falls to Springfield in NEWMAC Tournament

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - For the second-consecutive season, the Springfield College men's tennis program will advance to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship Semifinals, as the fourth-seeded Pride defeated fifth-seeded Wheaton on Saturday afternoon at the Appleton Courts.

Springfield College opened up the match winning two of the three doubles points, as the No. 2 doubles squad of Tanner DeVarennes and Justin Danielewicz and the No. 3 team of Kyle Beynor and Cameron Grant each won by identical 8-4 decisions. Wheaton's lone point came from its No. 1 team of Alden Zeff and Jorge Aguirre Martinez who earned an 8-5 win. 

In singles play, it just took three victories to seal the match, as DeVarennes defeated Jeremiah Ryser at the No. 1 singles spot, Court Honda bested Zeff at No. 3 and Danielewicz cruised past Ned Roosevelt at No. 4 to clinch the match.

Next, Springfield College will advance to take on top-seeded MIT in the NEWMAC Championship Semifinals, on Saturday, May 6.
