Men's Tennis Defeats Emerson, 6-3

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team defeated the Emerson College Lions, 6-3, Wednesday evening in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action, hosted at the Clark Tennis Courts.

Wheaton opened the match with a strong showing in doubles, sweeping Emerson right off the bat. Senior Alden Zeff and first-year Jorge Aguirre Martinez earned an 8-4 final decision at No. 1 to open competition. Sophomore Jeremiah Ryser and first-year Zach Strempel continued Wheaton's momentum at the No. 2 spot, sealing an 8-3, victory while No. 3 first-year Diego Garcia Anton and first-year Ned Roosevelt claimed an 8-0 final.

In singles play. No. 1 Ryser was the first Lyon to notch another win after he dished out a 6-1, 6-1 final. Aguirre Martinez put up a tough battle at No. 2, eventually coming out on top with the 7-5, 3-6, 10-2 victory. Garcia Anton was the final win for the Lyons at No. 6 where we tallied a 6-3, 6-1 final against Emerson.

The Lyons travel to Amherst College for their next match on Saturday with action slated to start at 9 a.m.
