NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team closed out the regular season as they battled the Babson College Beavers, but fell 9-0. The Lyons honored seniors Shreve Archer, Jim Beaton, David Gassen and Will White for their dedication to the program over the last four years.
Wheaton closes out the spring season as the No. 5 seed in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
In doubles action, Babson's Victor Vu and Saif Rahm took the 9-7 win against Gassen and first-year Jeremiah Ryser in the No. 1 spot to open the match. Brandon Rosenbluth and Roberto Perez went on to win the No. 2 spot at 8-0 against Alden Zeff and Beaton. Tyler Butler and Archer tried to notch a win for the Lyons at No. 3, but fell just short 8-5 against Ho Wang Alastair Ng and Dom Wysolmerski.
The Beavers completed the sweep of the Lyons in singles as Perez won the No. 1 spot against Gassen 6-0, 6-0 and Isaac Thylen secured a 6-2, 6-0 against Ryser in No. 2 slot.
Wheaton competes in the NEWMAC Tournament on Saturday, April 30, at Springfield College at 1 p.m. for the quarterfinals.
