NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team was edged out 5-4 by the Springfield Pride on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at Clark Tennis Courts.
Wheaton led 2-1 after doubles action with the No. 2 and No. 3 teams earning points. Will White and Alden Zeff pulled out a hard fought point from the No. 2 position, pushing past Justin Danielewicz and Tanner DeVarennes 9-8 (4).
The duo of Shreve Archer and Tyler Butler picked up the Lyons other doubles point with a solid 8-6 win.
The Pride tied things at 2-2 after one singles match, before taking a 3-2 lead moments later with a victory from the No. 5 spot. Wheaton once again tied the match, this time with a singles point from Butler, who defeated Cameron Grant 6-3, 6-3.
Springfield ended the match moments later with points from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Archer earned the Lyons their final point with a win from the No. 4 spot. The senior defeated Danielewicz 6-3, 7-5.
Wheaton returns to the Clark Tennis Courts for its next match, hosting Suffolk on Tuesday, April 19 at 4 p.m.
