EASTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell just short of defeating Stonehill College when the Skyhawks topped the Lyons 5-4 on Thursday evening.
In doubles action, Wheaton claimed two of the sets when Will White and Alden Zeff won 9-7 in the No. 2 spot. Tyler Butler and Jim Beaton continued action with a 8-6 victory in the No. 3 slot against Michael Doody and Dimitri Vlassov.
Wheaton could only notch two wins in singles when Jeremiah Ryser defeated Joan Castillo 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and Shreve Archer registered a 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 win against Tom Buckley, but the Skyhawks would hang on and secure the 5-4 victory.
The Lyons are back in action Saturday when they host Springfield College in a NEWMAC matchup beginning at 1 p.m. at the Clark Tennis Courts.
