NORTON, Mass. – It was a solid night for the Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team as the Lyons set several in-season bests in their dual against Trinity College (Conn.) on Friday night in the Balfour Natatorium.
As a team the Lyons finished with 165 points to Trinity's 60.
Wheaton finished one and two in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Kelley Baylis, Rowan Rice, Aleza Epstein and Kelsey Meyer taking first place with a time of 1:53.70.
Ceara Bowman was the Lyons top finisher in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:32.16, which earned her second place. Lucy Frey took third (11:35.12), Julia Baynes finished fourth (11:38.14) and Emily Girard broke the 12-minute mark with a time of 11:54.11.
Jenna Hayden swam a strong 200-yard free, finishing in first place with a time of 2:03.79, while Courtney Leach finished second (2:05.73) and Claire Bollman third (2:06.13). Hayden's best race came in the 100-yard backstroke where she set an in-season time of 1:01.59 en route to first place. Jesse Stewart and Skyler Dean-Lee both finished in second place with a time of 1:03.28.
Meyer earned herself a first place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.65, while Tayla Slater took second place with a time of 26.07. Wheaton took the top-four places in the 200-yard IM with Aleza Epstein leading the pack with a time of 2:16.38.
Epstein finished the 100-yard butterfly in second place (1:03.35) and Helen Grant took third with a time of 1:05.14.
Wheaton also picked up a sweep in the 100-yard free starting with a first place finish by Rebecca Idman (57.91). Leach finished in second place with a time of 58.04 and Slater took third with a time of 59.59.
Bollman collected a first place finish in the 500-yard free with a time of 5:32.69, while Molly Gibson swam her way into third (5:45.79).
The 100-yard breaststroke saw Rice finish in 1:12.78 and Leach take third place with a time of 1:13.74.
Wheaton also took first and second in the 200-yard free relay with Dean-Lee, Idman, Slater and Hayden finishing in first with a time of 1:44.01.
Katherine Conway earned the Lyons nine points in the women's 1 meter diving after finishing with a score of 210.90. The sophomore picked up nine more points in the 3 meter dive with a score of 224.33.
Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Clark Invitational for a 1 p.m. start.
