NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's swimming and diving team took to the pool on Friday night for a dual against Trinity College (Conn.) in the Balfour Natatorium with the Lyons earning a 120-103 victory.
The Lyons started the night with a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of Jacob Cost, Samuel Zarfos, Jonathan Dunnett and Jerard Fredette finishing in 1:37.69.
Timmer Sposato earned second place for Wheaton in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:41.63, while Jeremy Zak took third place (10:49.99). Sposato had an amazing finish to comeback and help the 200-yard free relay team finish tied with Trinity for third place with a time of 1:36.51. Wheaton's other relay team of Daniel Spencer, Raymond Bortolot, Todd Lambert and Frederick Garneau took home first place in the event with a time of 1:28.55.
Garneau took the top spot for the Lyons in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:46.52, while Lambert finished third (1:51.43). Fredette picked up a first place finish in the 50-yard free with a time of 22.37 and Spencer finished third with a time of 23.48.
The 200-yard IM saw Dunnett and Zarfos finish second and third with a time of 2:00.91 and 2:07.41 respectfully. Dunnett and Kevin Silva finished one, two in the 100-yard butterfly with Dunnett leading the way with a time of 53.35.
Lambert took home second place in the 100-yard free after finishing in 50.13, while Fredette concluded the race in third (50.97) and Bortolot fourth (51.90). Cost finished the 100-yard backstroke in second place (53.44) for the Lyons, while Chris Steward took third (58.38) and Sposato fourth (59.37).
Garneau put up a fight in the 500-yard free, finishing in second place with a time of 4:58.27, while Christian Tinory finished third (5:09.07).
Zarfos had a strong showing in the 100-yard breaststroke swimming away with a first place finish with a time of 1:01.66.
Wheaton returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Clark Invitational for a 1 p.m. start.
