2014-15 season comes to a close at 7-8 overall
WORCESTER, Mass. – Fifth-seeded Wheaton College fell to fourth-seeded Clark University by a 5-0 score on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament quarterfinal round matchup at the Corash Tennis Courts.
In doubles play, junior Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) and first-year Tyler Butler (Portland, Maine/Deering) dropped a tightly contested match at the No. 3 position against seniors Zack Goodstein (Columbus, Ohio/Bexley) and Scott Cabell (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) by an 8-6 score.
The Cougars went on to claim an 8-2 triumph at No. 1 and an 8-1 win at the No. 2 slot to take a commanding 3-0 lead headed into singles action.
Senior Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) lost to junior Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Balandra-Cruz Del Sur) by a 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles and sophomore Alden Zeff (Stratham, N.H./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at the No. 5 position versus senior Joel Simonson (Waterford, Conn./Waterford) to conclude the match.
Junior Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) led 6-1, 5-5 at No. 2 singles over Clark sophomore Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) before the match was stopped.
Wheaton's season comes to a close at 7-8 overall. Clark (6-10) will play first-seeded Babson College on Saturday, May 2 at 12 p.m.
