Lyons claim No. 5 seed in upcoming NEWMAC Tournament
BABSON PARK, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell to Babson College, 9-0, on Wednesday evening in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup at the Farwell Tennis Courts.
Junior Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) and sophomore Alden Zeff (Stratham, N.H./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) played a tightly contested match against Ramone Doyley (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) and Roberto Perez (Pozuelo de Alarcon, Spain/San Luis de los Franceses) at No. 2 doubles but ultimately lost 8-5.
In singles action, Perez claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over junior David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) at No. 1, while Doyley bested Zeff by a 6-1, 6-0 scored at the No. 5 spot.
White also went on to fall to Isaac Thylen (Surfside, Fla./Pine Crest) by a 6-2, 6-0 decision to round out some of the play in singles.
Wheaton (6-7, 2-4 NEWMAC) will travel to Clark University on Saturday, April 25 to play the Cougars in the NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals at 1 p.m. Babson (11-3, 6-0 NEWMAC) will host the winner of that match on Saturday, May 2 in the semifinal round of the conference tournament at 12 p.m.
