Lyons go 2-for-3 in doubles play
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 conference decision to Clark University on Wednesday evening at the Sinnott Family Tennis Facility, on the campus of Holy Cross.
Wheaton led 2-1 after doubles play concluded as the Lyons took the No. 1 and No. 2 positions by identical 8-6 scores.
Senior captain Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) and junior David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) defeated graduate student Dan Stein (Newton, Mass./Newton North) and junior Fernando Pinoargote (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Balandra – Cruz Del Sur) at the No. 1 slot, while juniors Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) and Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) bested sophomore Spencer Pinkney (Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth) and senior Josh Burger (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) at No. 2.
White went on to win a close match at No. 2 singles over Pinkney by a 7-6 (5-0), 6-2 score. The Cougars took No. 3 doubles by an 8-3 differential prior to winning No. 1 and No. 3-6 singles.
Wheaton (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosts Coast Guard Academy in its second conference match of the season on Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. Clark (3-7, 1-0 NEWMAC) travels to Babson this Saturday for a league clash at 1 p.m.
