NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College women's swimming and diving team picked up a 175-92 victory over visiting Bridgewater State on Wednesday evening at the Balfour Natatorium in non-conference action.
The Lyons opened the night with a sweep in the 200-yard medley relay. Wheaton's 'A' team of Jenna Hayden, Rowan Rice, Aleza Epstein and Kelsey Meyer took first place with a time of 1:54.78.
Claire Bollman won the 1000-yard freestyle for Wheaton, finishing the race in 11:39.90. Emily Girard took second for the Lyons (12:05.52), while Allison Mosier finished third (12:06.69).
Courtney Leach won the 200-yard free with a time of 2:04.71, while teammate Ceara Bowman took third (2:10.74).
Wheaton picked up another clean sweep in the 50-yard backstroke with the Lyons finishing first through fourth. Jesse Stewart was the top finisher with a time of 30.20, while Joanna Zak was second (30.32). Kate Dransfield finished third (30.46) and Kathryn Cole posted a time of 31.30.
Tayla Slater and Rice were the top two finishers in the 50-yard breast with Slater taking the top spot with a time of 34.57. Rice concluded the race in 34.77.
Bridgewater State took the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly, while the Lyons finished second through fifth. Skyler Dean-Lee was Wheaton's top finisher with a time of 1:04.99, while Catie Ebsary took third with a time of 1:05.04.
Hayden finished the 50-yard free in first place with a time of 25.67 and teammate Kelley Baylis finished in second place with a time of 27.54.
The Lyons earned a sweep in the 100-yard free, starting with a first place finish from Meyer (57.87). Stewart took second (58.75), Rice third (1:00.88) and Becca Golding fourth (1:03.06).
Zak collected a first place finish in the 100-yard back with a time of 1:04.58, while Slater was second (1:06.19) and Dransfield third (1:06.30).
Leach won the 100-yard breast with a time of 1:13.00, while Emily Reynolds was second (1:16.22) and Jessica Ryabin took third (1:16.76).
Julia Baynes won the 500-yard free after touching in 5:32.71. Dean-Lee wasn't too far behind, finishing in second place with a time of 5:39.66.
Tori Popstein won the 1-meter fiving with a final score of 194.78, while Katherine Conway finished with a 177.90.
Next the Lyons head to Roger Williams on Nov. 20 for a 4:30 p.m. meet.
