Gassen, Chan claim 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell to No. 28 MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup by an 8-1 score on Wednesday evening at the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble.
Sophomore David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) and junior Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) picked up Wheaton's only victory on the afternoon with an 8-4 triumph at No. 3 doubles.
Senior Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) took a hard-fought loss at No. 6 singles winning the first set 6-1 but falling in the next two sets, 6-2 and 11-9 to MIT's Moseley Andrews.
Wheaton (6-3, 1-1 NEWMAC) hosts Springfield College in a conference match on Saturday, April 5 at 1 p.m. MIT (6-3, 2-0 NEWMAC) welcomes Coast Guard Academy and Bowdoin College to its campus this Saturday for matches at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
