Lyons pick up third-straight victory
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team posted a 9-0 decision against Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night inside the Haas Athletic Center on the Beard Field House tennis courts. The non-conference match was moved indoors due to weather concerns.
In doubles play, sophomore Jonah Feit (Los Angeles, Calif./Milken Community) and newly minted New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Singles Player of the Week Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) turned in a 8-4 victory at No. 1. Senior co-captain Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Cape Cod Academy) and sophomore Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) produced an identical score at No. 2, while junior Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) and freshman Alden Zeff (Stratham, N.H./St. Stephen's Episcopal School) claimed an 8-3 victory at No. 3.
Feit made quick work of his opponent at No. 1 singles with an 8-1 score and Sharon collected his 40th career win at No. 2 with an 8-2 triumph. Sophomore David Gassen (Dusseldorf, Germany/Saddlebrook Prep) secured an 8-2 victory at No. 3 and classmate Shreve Archer (Pebble Beach, Calif./Stevenson School) registered an 8-1 win at No. 4.
Jackson was the only student-athlete to shutout his opponent (8-0) en route to his 30th career victory in singles play. Sophomore Jim Beaton (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket Regional) rounded out singles action at No. 6 with an 8-2 win.
Wheaton (5-2) travels to Coast Guard on Saturday, March 29 for a NEWMAC matchup at 1 p.m. Bridgewater State (2-2) hosts Western Connecticut State University this Saturday at 1 p.m.
