Feit defeats regionally ranked opponent at No.1 singles
NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's tennis team fell to MIT, ranked no.20 overall in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings, by a score of 8-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Freshman Jonah Feit (Los Angeles, Calif./Milken Community) defeated MIT junior Edwin Zhang (Falls Church, Va./Thomas Jefferson HS for Science and Tech) who is ranked no.6 overall in the Northeast Regional rankings by a score of 3-6, 6-2 and 10-8 at No.1 singles.
Feit and classmate Will White (Nantucket, Mass./Cape Cod Academy) battled Zhang and senior Matthew Skalak (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y./Croton-Harmon) to an 8-3 loss at No.1 doubles.
At No.2 doubles, juniors Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) and Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) fell to fellow classmate Curtis Wu (Yorba Linda, Calif./Valencia) and freshman Kevin Wang (Havertown, Pa./Conestoga) 8-5.
MIT's No.3 doubles team of sophomore Eugene Oh (Alparetta, Ga.) and senior Larry Pang (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) blanked Wheaton sophomore Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) and freshman Tyler Smith (New Canaan, Conn./Fairfield Prep) 8-0. The Engineers won all the remaining singles matches.
Wheaton (4-3, 0-1 NEWMAC) hosts Clark University on Wednesday, April 3 for a NEWMAC contest at the Clark Tennis Courts with doubles play scheduled for 3:30 p.m. #20 MIT (11-0, 1-0 NEWMAC) welcomes Babson College to the duPont Tennis Courts on Wednesday for a NEWMAC match at 3:30 p.m.
