Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior Duncan Smith (Centerport, N.Y./Harborfields) scored two goals in Wheaton College's 15-5 loss to No. 19 Springfield Saturday afternoon in Pilgrim League men's lacrosse action at Stagg Field.
Junior Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) picked up a pair of assists for the Lyons (8-4, 3-1 Pilgrim), who saw their six-game winning streak snapped. Freshman Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) tallied seven points (4-3-7) to lead the Pride (10-3, 5-0 Pilgrim).
The Pride led 4-0 after one quarter of play and 8-0 at halftime. Sheehan potted three goals while senior Mike Delia (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) added two goals and classmate Eric Balslov (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai) racked up two goals and an assist. Sophomore Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pauling) made 10 saves for the Lyons.
The Lyons found their offensive game in the third and scored four times, but still found themselves trailing 13-4 after three quarters. Smith broke the Springfield shutout with an unassisted marker with 6:53 left in the third, and Wheaton closed the quarter with goals by senior Charlie Willauer (Duxbury, Mass./Proctor Academy), freshman Matthew Hillman (Brookline, Mass./Brookline), and sophomore Colby Shields (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth). Smith capped the scoring with a man-up goal with 2:18 left in the fourth.
Wheaton was outshot 48-33 and saw Bramhall finish with 13 saves. Smith, Hillman, and junior Will Compton (Deering, N.H./Proctor Academy) each collected three ground balls. Balslov closed the afternoon with four points (1-3-4) while Murphy and sophomore Ryon Lynch (Frederick, Md./Governor Thomas Johnson) tallied a goal and two assists each.
The Lyons return to action Wednesday when they host MIT at 4 p.m. The Pride entertain Western New England Wednesday at 4 p.m.
