NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team won five of its six singles matches to defeat Endicott College 6-3 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon at the Clark Tennis Courts.
Senior Neall Oliver (Portland, Maine/Deering) posted a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles over junior Olivier Joggi (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham). Sophomore Dan Sharon (Santa Monica, Calif./Brentwood School) was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles over senior Porter Williams (Raleigh, N.C./The Harvey School).
Sophomore Ned Terrace (Chappaqua, N.Y./Horace Greeley) scored a 6-0, 2-6, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles over sophomore Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy). At No. 4 singles, sophomore Sam Jackson (Darien, Conn./Darien) notched a 7-5, 7-6 win over junior Jake Cohen (Barrington, R.I./Barrington).
Freshman Lawrence Chan (Lincoln, R.I./Wheeler School) recorded a 6-4, 5-7, 10-4 win at No. 5 singles over junior Benjamin Randlett (Middlebury, Vt./Middlebury Union). Freshman Brendon Pickering (Merrimack, Mass./Waring School) suffered a 6-0, 6-2 loss to freshman Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass./Natick) at No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, Oliver and Terrace knocked off Joggi and Cohen 8-3 at No. 1. Randlett and freshman Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) upended Sharon and Chan 8-6 at No. 2 while Williams and sophomore Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) were 8-5 winners over juniors William Beaton (Groveland, Mass./Pentucket) and Kyle Kiernan (Topsfield, Mass./Masconomet Regional).
Wheaton (6-5) returns to action on Saturday when it heads to MIT for a 1 p.m. match. The Gulls (7-9) face Gordon Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in Hamilton, Mass.
