Box Score WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - Senior Mike Harrington (Sturbridge, Mass./Bancroft School) scored three goals and classmate Charlie Willauer (Duxbury, Mass./Proctor Academy) added a pair in Wheaton College's 12-7 loss at Eastern Connecticut State University in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.
Junior Sean Doherty (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) added a goal and three assists for the Lyons, who fell to 2-3 with the loss. Senior Michael Sullinger (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) tallied seven points (4-3-7) and sophomore Trevor Morrissette (Bedford, N.H./Bedford) added two goals and an assist to pace the Warriors, who improved to 3-2.
ECSU opened the scoring with a goal from sophomore Mike Devine (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) at 13:29. Harrington answered with a tally at 11:22 to even the game at one before the Warriors potted five-straight goals to close the half leading 6-1. Sullinger recorded a goal and three assists during the run.
The two teams alternated the first four goals of the second quarter with Willauer and senior David Schroeder (Nashau, N.H./Nashua North) scoring for the Lyons. Later, Harrington and Doherty scored at 6:41 and 2:41 to bring Wheaton to within three at 8-5. Sullinger's third of the afternoon at 1:58 made the halftime score 9-5 in favor of the home team.
The Warriors scored the only three goals of the third to take a 12-5 lead to the fourth - including a pair by Morrissette seven seconds apart. Fourth-quarter goals by Willauer at 9:52 and Harrington at 3:03 capped the scoring.
ECSU outshot the Lyons 31-17 and won 20-of-23 face-offs. Sophomore Harrison Bramhall (Barrington, R.I./Trinity Pawling) recorded nine saves for the Lyons while his counterpart, senior Jamie Tommins (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe), recorded six saves.
Junior Josh Dubinsky (Woodstock, Conn./Hyde School) collected a game-high 16 ground balls for the Warriors. Harrington led all Wheaton field players with three.
The Lyons return to action Wednesday afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. contest at Lasell. Eastern Connecticut State plays at Widener Tuesday at 7 p.m.
