NORTON, MA- The Lasell College men's lacrosse team used five
man-up goals to push past Wheaton College, 12-10 on Wednesday in a
Pilgrim League contest in Mirrione Stadium. The Lyons slipped to
4-6 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Lasers are 3-10 and
2-3.
Wheaton senior Warren Garceau (Guilford, CT/Canterbury
School) netted a hat trick, sophomore Billy McNamara (Mansfield, MA/Northfield Mount Hermon School)
collected two goals and an assist, and junior Ben Cederberg
(Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) scored twice. Classmate
Chris Landers (Manchester, MA/Proctor Academy) had
a goal and three assists, and senior Schuyler Horn (New
Hartford, CT/Kingswood-Oxford School) made three
saves.
Senior Brian Yepez (Hillsborough,
NJ/Hillsborough) led all scorers with five goals and three
assists for Lasell, junior Chris Bulkley (Groton,
CT/Fitch) had two goals and a helper, and classmate
Sean Speciale (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough)
tallied once with two assists. Junior Eric Walsh (Weymouth,
MA/Weymouth) turned aside nine shots for the Lasers, who
went 5-for-7 with a man up while scoring 12 goals on 23 shots.
The teams went back and forth during the early portion of the
contest, as Wheaton twice had one-goal, first-quarter leads wiped
out before Lyon junior Bobby Barry's (Duxbury,
MA/Duxbury) marker at 11:31 of the second produced the
fourth tie to make it 4-4. During an ensuing three-minute penalty,
Lasell scored twice in a 31-second span to spark a 3-0 run, and
Bulkley's goal with 1.6 seconds remaining in the half had the
visitors up 8-5 at the break.
Wheaton began the second half on a 4-1 run, with Garceau's tally
at 13:21 of the fourth quarter knotting the teams for the fifth
time at 9-9. However, Yepez and sophomore Adam Foss
(Billerica, MA/Billerica) soon scored 40 seconds apart,
with Foss netting the game-winner to provide the Lasers with an
11-9 advantage with 10:55 to play. Lyon senior Drew Schaffer (New Haven, CT/Loomis Chaffee School) made it a
one-goal margin at 8:31, but Bulkley completed the scoring with
4:27 left.
The Lyons continue a three-game homestand on Saturday when they
face Clark University for another Pilgrim League contest at 1:00
p.m.
