Five-match winning streak halted at regionally-ranked Tufts

MEDFORD, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team had its five-match winning streak come to an end on Tuesday against host Tufts University, as the region's 19th-ranked team was swept by the 13th-ranked Jumbos.  The rankings are by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

The Lyons fell to 13-4 in the setback, while Tufts evened its season mark at 6-6.

In third doubles, juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford, CT/Joseph A. Foran) played in the tightest match before losing 8-6, as the tandem had its five-match winning stretch snapped.

Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) suffered an 8-4 setback in the top position.

In singles  play, senior James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert Island) pushed his opponent to a tiebreaker at number two before losing in straight sets, while Hudgins dropped a 7-5 decision in the opening set at three.

Wheaton is next in action this weekend for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.  Seeded second, the Lyons will face the winner of the match between the third-seeded hosts and sixth seed Clark University in Saturday's semifinals at 10:30 a.m.
