NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team stretched its
winning streak to four matches on Tuesday afternoon thanks to a 9-0
triumph over non-conference foe Bridgewater State College in Beard
Field House.
The 6-2 Lyons improved their all-time series lead with the 1-2
Bears to 15-1, which includes a 9-0 mark in Norton. During
its current winning streak, Wheaton has outscored its opponents by
a 30-3 margin.
Senior James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert
Island) and junior Gregory Poulin (Boxboro,
MA/Home Schooled) blanked their opposition at second
doubles before the first and third doubles tandems came away
victorious for a 3-0 lead.
Senior Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge) and
sophomore Neall Oliver (Portland, ME/Deering) won
8-4 at number one, while juniors Harry Altman (Riverdale,
NY/The Dwight School) and Brian Krantz (Milford,
CT/Joseph A. Foran) recorded an 8-5 victory in the third
spot.
Krantz and Altman had little difficulty picking up their second
wins of the day during singles play, as each shut out their
opponents at five and six, respectively. Hudgins gave up two
games during his straight-set triumph in the third position, while
Little and Poulin surrendered three apiece at two and four,
respectively. Oliver rounded out the straight-set winners
with a 6-4, 6-1 decision in the top slot.
On Thursday, the Lyons begin a four-match road swing at Salve
Regina University. The non-league match in Newport, Rhode
Island, is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
