NORTON, MA- The Wheaton College men's tennis team rolled to a
9-0 victory over visiting University of Massachusetts at Boston
during Tuesday afternoon's non-conference match in Beard Field
House.
Wheaton improved to 4-2 with the victory, while the Beacons
remained winless at 0-5.
Lyon senior Chapman Beekman (South Kingstown, RI/South
Kingstown) and junior Brian Krantz (Milford,
CT/Joseph A. Foran) set the tone early with an 8-0 doubles
triumph at number three.
Seniors Kyle Hudgins (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge)
and James Little (Mount Desert, ME/Mount Desert
Island) won 8-1 at first doubles, while juniors
Harry Altman (Riverdale, NY/The Dwight School) and
Gregory Poulin (Boxboro, MA/Home Schooled)
surrendered just two games in the second spot.
The Blue and White followed suit in singles play, with Poulin
and junior Cullen Garrity (Middletown, MD/Saint James
School) blanking the opposition in the third and sixth
positions, respectively. Hudgins and Beekman yielded one game
each at two and five, respectively, while Little won 6-0, 6-2 in
the top slot and Krantz 6-2, 6-0 at number four.
Wheaton begins New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) play on Saturday at Springfield College at 1:00 p.m.
