MEDFORD/WESTFIELD, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's track & field team won four events between the Tufts Spring Invitational and the Jerry Gravel Classic today in Medford, Mass. and Westfield, Mass., respectively.
Senior Michaina Loriston (Boston, Mass.) turned in the 21st-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season to win the 100 meters with a time of 12.03 at the Tufts meet at Dussault Track & Field complex within the Frederick M. Ellis Oval. She was also part of the Lyons' 4X100-meter relay squad that topped the field with a mark of 47.37. She was joined by senior Wendy Wooden (Sharon, Mass.), junior Camille Connors (Woburn, Mass.) and senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn.). Sophomore Eva Garofano (Barrington, R.I.) won the discus throw at the Jerry Gravel Classic at Westfield State University's Jerry Gravel Track with a toss of 35.20 for the 10th-best throw in school history. Senior Anika Wagner (Elmore, Vt.) also placed first in Westfield with a toss of 47.62 meters in the hammer throw.
First year Molly Gleason (Marstons Mills, Mass.) made her collegiate debut for Wheaton by finishing second in the javelin throw with a mark of 30.86 meters. Wagner was 11th in the event with a distance of 14.24 meters. Wagner also finished eighth in the discus with a throw of 29.48 meters. Junior Annie Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) finished among the top-five in two different events, placing fourth in the shot put with a heave of 10.17 meters and fifth in the discus with a mark of 31.93 meters. Garofano added a sixth-place showing in the hammer throw to her day after recording a distance of 35.81 meters.
The Lyons' 4X400-meter relay finished fourth with a time of 4:10.15 behind junior Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.), first year Adeline Takantjas (Belmont, N.H.), junior Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.) and senior Kristen DiBella (Boston, Mass.). DiBella also finished fourth in both the 400 meters and the 400-meter hurdles. She clocked in with a personal-record time of 1:00.87 in the 400 meters and 1:06.49 in the 400-meter hurdles. Wickenheisser was ninth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.62 and first year Paige Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was 10th at 1:10.44.
Junior Anella Bolster (Marcellus, N.Y.) finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.19 meters and Wooden was ninth in the 200 meters on a time of 26.21, while Connors was 15th after recording a mark of 26.71. Takantjas finished 15th in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.53. Junior Anna Butrimas (Berlin, Conn.) led Wheaton in the 800 meters with a time of 2:46.11 to finish 30th.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, April 17 when they compete at the BSU Bears Invitational in Bridgewater, Mass.
