MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's lacrosse player Charlie Goodrich (Fairfield, Conn.) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week for the week of February 16-22, it was announced today by the NEWMAC.
Goodrich becomes the third men's lacrosse player in the past two weeks to be honored by the conference after junior Evan Paturzo (Bellingham, Mass.) was also tabbed the Offensive Athlete of the Week last week and classmate Evan Borchert (Littleton, Colo.) joined him as the league's Defensive Athlete of the Week for the Lyons.
Goodrich tallied nine points on seven goals and a pair of assists to go with a pair of ground balls. The senior matched his career-high with seven points on five goals, two assists, and a pair of ground balls in Wheaton's 16-5 win over visiting Lasell University on February 18. The attackman capped the week with two goals to help the Lyons earn a 10-6 road win at Roger Williams University on February 21.
For the season, the New Hampton School (N.H.) product has started all three matches and has 11 points, including nine goals. He ranks fourth in the NEWMAC with 3.00 goals per game, while standing 10th with 3.67 points per outing. Goodrich has tallied multiple goals in every match this season for Wheaton.
The Tri-Captain transferred to play for the Lyons prior to his sophomore campaign after playing 10 games for Roanoke College, where he netted four goals and collected a pair of assists. With Wheaton, Goodrich has started all 35 games that he's appeared in and has 50 goals to go with 41 assists to give him 54 scores and 43 assists for a total of 97 points in addition to 53 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers.
The Lyons are currently 3-0 on the season and return to action on Saturday, February 28 when they host University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Nordin Field at 1:00 p.m.
