Women's SwimDive Upended by Connecticut College, 193-84

NORTON, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimming & diving team was turned back by visiting Connecticut College, 193-84, this afternoon at Balfour Natatorium on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.

The Lyons drop to 3-9 on the season, while the Camels improve to 2-6.

Prior to the meet, Wheaton recognized its six seniors. The Lyons paid homage to Grace Chin (Blooming Grove, N.Y.), Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.), Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio), Laurel Mitchell (Rutland, Mass.), Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) and Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.).

Connecticut College won 12 of 16 events during the meet, but Wheaton swept the diving events.

First year diver Ella Kent (Framingham, Mass.) won on both boards to tie for a meet-high 18 points for the Lyons. The rookie tallied a personal-best score of 282.90 points to place first on the one-meter board. She followed that effort with a first-place finish on the three-meter board with a mark of 124.35 points. 

Stone tallied 12 points for Wheaton, including a first-place effort with a time of 2:00.73 in the 200-yard freestyle. She added a third-place showing in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.52. Van Holland also registered double-digit points, led by a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:50.06 for the Lyons. Junior Anna St. Jean (Alexandria, Va.) placed second in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle for Wheaton to score eight points. She clocked in with times of 25.96 and 56.37, respectively. Lambert-Shemo finished as the runner-up with a time of 2:19.09 in the 200-yard individual medley in addition to finishing third with a mark of 2:03.11 in the 200-yard freestyle. 

Senior Kate Edison (Westford, Mass.) and sophomore Morganne Young (Longwood, Fla.) Edison won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:09.96 and touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle with a clip of 54.78. Young won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.26 and topped the field in the 100-yard butterfly with a mark of 59.95 for the Camels. 

Connecticut College junior Ella Behling (Brookfield, Conn.) scored in three different events for a total of 15 points, including a first-place effort in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.23 and a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:35.48. She also finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley. Sophomore Chloe Frandsen (Germantown, Tenn.), senior Rosemary Bonadies (Nashville, Tenn.) and junior Emma Lent (Acton, Mass.) each tallied 13 points, including first-place efforts for both swimmers. Frandsen posted a winning time of 5:26.24 and placed second in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:01.56. Bonadies finished first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.39 and placed second in the 100-yard backstroke with a mark of 1:00.99. Lent registered the top mark in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:32.93 and was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke with a clip of 1:11.90.  

Junior Lauren Multari (Hamilton, N.J.) was the winner in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:18.32 and clocked in at 1:12.45 to finish third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Junior Kailin Fuller (Bowdoinham, Maine) contributed for the Camels with a first-place effort in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.41.

Connecticut College swept both relays, opening the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.63. Bonadies opened the relay in the backstroke, followed by sophomore Campbell Baumgartner (Charlotte, N.C.) in the breaststroke and Edison in the butterfly, before Fuller closed the relay with the freestyle relay. Fuller also led the 200-yard freestyle relay ahead of first year Addy Pruce (Chagrin Falls, Ohio), Young and Edison for the Camels with a time of 1:41.53.

Wheaton returns to the pool on February 19 for the first day of the four-day New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. at 6:00 p.m.
