Dalton, Lambert-Shemo, Stone, Van Holland Named NEWMAC Women's Swimming & Diving All-Conference

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) women's swimmers Talia Dalton (Andover, Minn.), Emma Claire Lambert-Shemo (Cleveland, Ohio), Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) and Vivian Van Holland (Excelsior, Minn.) were all named to the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference All-Conference Second Team, it was announced by the NEWMAC.

NEWMAC swimmers and divers earned First Team honors upon placing first in any event at the conference championship meet from February 19-22, while second-place finishers received Second Team recognition.

Stone earns All-Conference honors for the fourth straight season by virtue of her second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and her part in the 800-yard freestyle relay, which finished as the runner-up at the NEWMAC Championship for the fourth year in a row. Dalton, Lambert-Shemo, and Van Holland joined Stone on the second-place 800-yard freestyle relay.

Stone turned in a time of 1:51.19 to place second in the 200-yard freestyle at the NEWMAC Championship on February 22. The senior also scored points with a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 52.62 and a fifth-place effort in the 500-yard freestyle on a time of 5:08.60. The Barrington High School product produced three personal-record times during the season and 15 top-five showings, including nine wins. The Marketing major dominated the 200-yard freestyle during the season, winning all five races in dual meet competition. 

For her career, Stone has earned All-Conference recognition in 10 different events, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle twice and second in the 500-yard freestyle. She was also a member of a pair of second-place 400-yard freestyle relay teams and a 200-yard medley relay squad at NEWMAC's with the Lyons.

Dalton, Lambert-Shemo, Stone and Van Holland combined on a time of 7:36.60 to finish second and qualify for an NCAA B-cut mark. 

In addition, Dalton placed ninth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.22 and was 11th in the 500-yard freestyle with a clip of 5:09.56 at the NEWMAC Championship. The senior tallied 19 top-five finishes during the season, including seven victories. Dalton won two races each in the 1000, 500 and 200-yard freestyle events during the season. The Bioinformatics major established five personal-record times during the year.

A graduate of Andover High School, Dalton has earned All-Conference designation on four occasions now, including a runner-up finish in last year's 1650-yard freestyle and as a three-year member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team. 

Lambert-Shemo enjoyed the best season of her career, finishing third at the NEWMAC Championship in the 200-yard breaststroke with a personal-record time of 2:22.64 for her highest finish ever at the championship meet. The senior also added a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke with a personal-best mark of 1:05.58 and was 12th in the 200-yard individual medley with a personal-record effort of 2:10.37 as well. The Neuroscience major posted four personal-record swims during the season and recorded 16 top-five finishes, including four wins. The Cleveland Saint Joseph Academy product was a winner on four occasions, including three times in the 100-yard breaststroke. 

A four-year standout, the Neuroscience major has been honored as an All-Conference performer in five events during her career, including the 200 and 400-medley relays and the 400 and 800-yard freestyle relays last season. 

Van Holland finished fourth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a personal-record time of 17:51.12 for her highest finish ever at the conference title meet. A graduate of Minnetonka High School, she also turned in seventh-place finishes in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events with times of 1:57.63 and 5:12.41, respectively. Van Holland recorded a pair of personal-record times during the year. The Minnesota native was a dependable scorer during the season for Wheaton, topping the 600-point mark along with Stone, Dalton and Lambert-Shemo. She registered 21 top-five finishes and won five events, including a trio of 500-yard freestyle races.

The Second Team nod is the first for the Mathematics and Secondary Education major during her career for the Lyons.

Wheaton finished the season with a 3-9 dual meet record and placed seventh at the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship.
