KEENE, N.H. – Junior Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) placed 14th to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's cross country team at the Keene State Invitational this afternoon at the Owl Athletic Complex in Keene, N.H.
The Lyons tallied 459 points to place 18th in the six-kilometer "Red" race. Williams College took the team title with a total of 33 points. Sophomore Estella Laird (Lincoln, Vt.) won the individual crown for Williams with a time of 21:57.2.
Vescio clocked in with a personal-record mark of 22:32.00. She was one of nine Wheaton runners to post personal-best times for the day.
Junior Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) shaved 22 seconds off her previous best with a time of 23:02.8 to finish 30th. Junior Maggie Cizmar (Plymouth, Mass.) turned in a mark of 25:28.9 to cut 35 seconds off her former best mark and placed 143rd for the Lyons.
Sophomore Sophia Woodcock (Warrington, Pa.) finished 178th with a time of 26:31.2 for Wheaton with first year Nicole Christian (Charlton, Mass.) not far behind with a personal-record time of 26:45.4 to finish 182nd to round out the scoring for the Lyons. Junior Ryanna Ritting (Perkasie, Pa.) placed 204th with a personal-best mark of 27:26.7.
First year Blue Betancourt-Poor (New York City, N.Y.) posted a personal-record time of 28:05.9 to finish 215th in the red race. Wheaton also had three other runners record personal-best marks in the white race. First year Kobe Sherwood (Monmouth, Maine) lopped a whopping 82 seconds off her previous best with a time of 27:49.1 to finish 35th in the white race. First year Mady Dias (Taunton, Mass.) registered a personal-record time of 28:21.6 to finish 36th in the race and first year Lena Smith (Charlotte, Vt.) also posted a personal-best mark with a time of 29:29.2 to place 49th in the white race.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, October 9 when they compete in the Hopkinton Cross Country Festival in Hopkinton, N.H. at 3:30 p.m.
