ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Junior Chloe Vescio (Douglas, Mass.) placed fifth to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) women's cross country team to an eighth-place showing at the Suffolk Short Course Classic at the Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass.
The Lyons tallied 214 points, while University of New Hampshire topped the field with 36 points. Johnson & Wales University (R.I.) led all NCAA Division III squads with 62 points and was led by individual champion junior Amanda Intrieri (Millerton, N.Y.), who clocked in with a mark of 10:43.2.
Vescio turned in a personal-record time of 11:29.3. She was one of six Wheaton runners to register personal-record times in the race.
Junior Abby Wozniak (Blackstone, Mass.) also logged a personal-record effort, shaving 27 seconds off her previous best for a time of 12:04.4 to finish 17th for the Lyons. Sophomore Ellie Gilman (Brunswick, Maine) placed 59th with a time of 12:58.9, while junior Maggie Cizmar (Plymouth, Mass.) bested her previous mark by 39 ticks for a mark of 13:14.2 to finish 76th. Junior Ryanna Ritting (Perkasie, Pa.) made her collegiate debut with a time of 13:23.8 to place 83rd and first year Nicole Christian (Charlton, Mass.) posted a mark of 13:50.7 in her first collegiate race for a 109th-place effort. Sophomore Sophia Woodcock (Warrington, Pa.) rounded out the scoring for Wheaton with a personal-record time of 13:59.8 to place 117th.
Senior Annabelle Sanders (Miami, Fla.) shredded her personal-best time by a staggering minute and 54 seconds and finished 120th with a mark of 14:01.1. Sophomore Caeli Wagner (Hingham, Mass.) was steps behind and also notched a personal-record time by 29 seconds to finish at 14:04.6 to place 123rd for the Lyons.
Wheaton returns to the path on Saturday, September 19 when it travels to North Dartmouth, Mass. to compete in the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational at 11:20 a.m.
