MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's soccer player Baden McLaughlin (Yarmouth, Maine) was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week of September 1-7, it was announced today by the league.

McLaughlin becomes the second Lyon to earn the league's Offensive Athlete of the Week honor this season after junior Declan Rhatigan (Holderness, N.H.) was tabbed last week. The back-to-back weekly offensive honors mark the first time since Travis Blair '15 was selected the top weekly offensive player for September 9 and September 16 in 2013 that Wheaton has received the accolade in consecutive weeks from the NEWMAC.

The senior tallied five points on a pair of goals and an assist in two matches for the Lyons. The midfielder scored Wheaton's lone goal in the 67th minute to give the Lyons a 1-1 tie at No. 10 Williams College on September 2. A graduate of Yarmouth High School, McLaughlin tallied three points with a goal and an assist in a 9-1 victory over University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on September 6 to cap the week.

The Business and Management major has started all three matches for Wheaton this season. He currently ranks third in the league in points with five and goals with two. 

For his career, McLaughlin has been an integral contributor for the Lyons, playing in 58 games in Norton, while collecting 11 points on four goals and three assists. The Maine native has notched at least one point in every season with Wheaton.

The Lyons are currently 2-0-1 on the season and return to play on Wednesday, September 10 when they travel to Springfield, Mass. to take on Western New England University at 4:00 p.m.
