Nunnink Named Men's Fencing All-America Honorable Mention by USFCA

GRANVILLE, Ohio — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's fencer Phillip Winston Nunnink (Kansas City, Mo.) was named All-America Honorable Mention by the United States Fencing Coaches Association, it was announced by the organization.

The first year had already earned All-Region honors from the USFCA and now becomes the first fencer in school history to earn All-America accolades as well. A graduate of Rockhurst High School, Nunnink placed 20th at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship hosted by Tufts University on March 9 in Medford, Mass. The rookie was outstanding in his first collegiate campaign, posting a 52-27 (.658) record for the season and advanced to the third round of the Regional Championship. Nunnink was flat out dominant during stretches of the season and put together a 17-bout win streak from November 23, 2024 to February 1, 2025. The Finance major won at least one bout in all but one match during the season and was undefeated, going 3-0, in nine dual matches. He lost seven bouts by just one point and posted 11 shutout victories. Nunnink was nearly infallible during a Northeast Conference competition weekend hosted by Brown University on November 23-24. He was named an NFC First Team All-Star after winning 15 of 18 bouts for an 83.3% winning percentage, which tied for the highest win rate of any conference all-star. The Missouri native began the season by going 7-1 at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Big One Invitational on November 2 in Northampton, Mass. and finished ninth among 89 competitors with his only loss coming in a 15-14 defeat in the round of 16.

Wheaton finished 2-19 in its first-ever season of competition.
