CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. --Â The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's fencing team made the trip up to Boston College on Saturday, taking on the Eagles at the Syd Fadner Invitational. Sophomore
Phillip Nunnink (Kansas City, Mo.) led the charge for the Lyons, finishing 2-1 in the foil as Wheaton fell to the Eagles 23-4.
Nunnink began his day with a victorious bout against Boston College first year Sebastian Elwood (Atlanta, Ga.), going the distance in a 5-4 win over the Eagle. Nunnink was tripped up in his second bout, falling to Boston College first year Henry Stirling (London, England) 5-3. He rebounded in his final bout in the foil, taking a 5-4 win over junior Christian Ko (Hong Kong, China) to close out the day. The Lyons would ultimately fall to the Eagles with the foil, 7-2.
First year
Jun-Ho Chen (Middletown, N.Y.) picked up the only point for the Lyons with the epee. His first bout saw him fall 5-2, but the first year flipped the script his second time on the strip, claiming victory in a 5-2 bout with junior Tora Mishima (Bedminster, N.J.). Wheaton fell to the Eagles in the epee, 8-1.Â
Sophomore
Oliver Smink (Rochester, N.Y.) dropped his first two bouts with the sabre before coming away with a victory in his last match-up of the day. The Lyon downed junior Colin Noble (Princeton, N.J.) 5-3 to wrap up the competition for Wheaton. The Eagles took the sabre competition 8-1 to claim victory in the match, 23-4.
Wheaton will have over a week to rest as they prepare for their final competition of the 2025 calendar year on December 7th at the Carla-Mae Richards Invitational against Brandeis.
