NORTON. Mass. — Wheaton College (Mass.) men's fencing team members Ryan Daudelin (Duxbury, Mass.) and Phillip Winston Nunnink (Kansas City, Mo.) were both named to the United States Fencing Coaches Association All-Academic Team in addition to being tabbed Scholars of Distinction, it was announced by the USFCA.
To qualify for the All-Academic Team, competitors must have competed for one academic year and earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3. Scholars of Distinction must have achieved a GPA of at least 3.7.
Daudelin was previously named to the Northeast Fencing Conference Men's Fencing Academic All-Conference team. The senior is a Film & New Media Studies, Italian Studies and English multi-major at Wheaton. The Boston College High School product saw action in 60 bouts in sabre competition for the Lyons.
Nunnink was also chosen for the NFC Academic All-Conference team. The first year is a Finance major. A graduate of Rockhurst High School, Nunnink was named All-America Honorable Mention in foil and All-Region by the USFCA and a First Team All-Star by the NFC.
Wheaton finished 2-19 in its first-ever season of competition.
