NEW LONDON, Conn. — Senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) finished second in the 110-meter hurdles to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team at the NEW England Division III Championship hosted by United States Coast Guard Academy today at Nitchman Field in New London, Conn.
The Lyons scored 22 points to finish 12th as a team, while Wesleyan College topped the field with 80 points.
Pinnix clocked in with a time of 14.55 seconds. Wheaton first year Gavin Landry (Westbrook, Maine) posted a mark of 15.41 to finish 14th in the event's preliminaries.
Senior Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) placed third in the 200 meters with a mark of 21.44. Peterson also ran the anchor of the Lyons' 4X100-meter relay team that placed second with a time of 41.31 for the 45th-fastest time in NCAA Division III this season and the third-best time in program history. First year Travis C. James (Hamden, Conn.), first year Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) and senior John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.) joined Peterson in the race. Wheaton's 4X400-meter relay placed 10th in the meet with a season-best time of 3:24.38. Sophomore Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.), junior Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.), senior Zac Elmasri (Groton, Mass.) and Dowgiert combined on the time for the Lyons.
Junior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) finished 12th for Wheaton in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:00.99, while junior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) crossed the finish with a mark of 4:16.62 to finish 17th in the 1500 meters. Sophomore Cam Cross-Chinn (Newport, R.I.) recorded a toss of 50.87 meters to place 20th in the javelin throw for the Lyons.
Wheaton will be in action again when it competes on May 9 at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza at Williams College in Willamstown, Mass.
