Men's Track & Field Places School-Record 10 on NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — A school-record 10 Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field members were named to the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Academic All-Conference team, it was announced by the league.

Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.), John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.), Parker Fullem (Wantage, N.J.), Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.), Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.), Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.), Lucas MacKenzie (Saint Albans, Vt.), Logan Quinn (Portsmouth, R.I.), William Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) were named by the conference. 

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2024 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

Dowgiert earns the honor for the third straight year, while Fullem, Hillier, Lacroix and Singer earn the nod for the second consecutive season. 

Dowgiert is a senior Business and Management major. The Methuen High School graduate was the Lyons' top competitor in the 400 meters and ninth at the NEWMAC Championship on April 26. He capped his career by finishing fourth with the 10th-fastest time in the event (50.19) at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 15. Fullem is a junior Biology major. The High Point Regional High School product placed 15th in the 1500 meters at the Regis Spring Invitational on April 4. Hillier is a junior Business and Management major. A graduate of Champlain Valley Union High School, Hillier led Wheaton's distance runners and broke the school record for the 1500 meters multiple times. He clocked in at 3:53.04 to finish 11th at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza on May 10 in Williamstown, Mass. and was also third in the event at the NEWMAC Championship. Lacroix is a junior Mathematics major. The Bedford High School product was the Lyons' top entry in the 5000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase during the season and posted three top-10 finishes in the steeplechase during the year, including a seventh-place showing at the NEWMAC Championship. Singer is a senior Biology major. The North Hollywood High School graduate competed in the 100, 200 and 400 meters for Wheaton and posted personal-record times in both the 100 and 200 meters at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 19.

Copp, Giatrakos, MacKenzie, Quinn and Smith all get the nod for the first time. Copp is a junior Economics major. A graduate of Littleton High School, Copp topped the Lyons in the shot put and discus throw during the season, including a seventh-place effort in the discus at the NEWMAC Championship with a personal-record heave of 38.48 meters, which was also good for the fourth-best in school history. Giatrakos is a junior Graphic Design major. The Stoughton High School graduate competed in the 200 and 400 for Wheaton and was a big part of the 4X400-meter relay that placed fifth at the NEWMAC Championship. MacKenzie is a junior Political Science major. A graduate of Bellows Free Academy, MacKenzie battled through injury during the outdoor campaign after competing during the indoor season for the Lyons. Quinn is a sophomore Mathematics major. The Portsmouth High School product led Wheaton in the hammer throw and notched a personal-record mark of 40.78 meters to place eighth at the Collier Invitational, while ranking as the fourth-best effort in program history. Smith is a sophomore Computer Science major. The King Philip Regional High School graduate earned a silver medal at the NEWMAC Championship in the decathlon with a score of 4933 points, which was good for the second-highest point total in school history.

The Lyons placed sixth in the NEWMAC Outdoor Championship and was 21st at the NCAA Championship in addition to finishing 12th at the New England Division III Regional Championship.
