NEW ORLEANS, La. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field member Scott Sloan (Barrington, R.I.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-America First Team, it was announced by the USTFCCCA.
Athletes of member institutions who finished in the top-8 of their respective individual events and as part of a relay team at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships earned First-Team All-America honors. Those who finished ninth through 16th individually and ninth through 12th as part of a relay team were named Second-Team All-America.
Sloan becomes the first All-America selection for the Lyons' men's team since Miles Ketchum '12, Karl Mader '13, Ben Miklovich '13 and Mark Williamson '12 in 2012. He is the first individual All-American since Williamson was named for the 400 meters in 2012 and the first field athlete to earn All-America accolades since Dan Olson in the high jump in 2004. Sloan is the first student-athlete in program history to earn All-America status for the javelin throw.
Sloan won the javelin throw at the NCAA Division III National Championship on May 22 at the SPIRE Institute on May 22 in Geneva, Ohio. The first year won the event to become Wheaton's first individual national champion in an event since Olson in 2004 and did so in dramatic fashion. Sloan catapulted himself from ninth to first place with his final throw of the night, recording a toss of 67.97 meters to break his own school record for the third time in a span of 34 days.
The Wheeler School product was also named All-Region after uncorking the fifth-best throw (66.53 meters) in the nation to earn the gold medal at the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship and shatter the conference record. His toss also supplanted the MHC Track & Turf Facility record at host Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. Sloan missed time with an injury to begin the outdoor season, but once he made his collegiate debut with his first school-record throw of 62.49 meters to win the event at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Institute of Technology on April 18, he never looked back. Sloan was undefeated during his first collegiate season, winning the javelin in all four meets that he competed in, including the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza hosted by Williams College on May 9. The Ocean State native was named the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year and recorded throws of at least 60 meters in all four meets that he appeared in during the outdoor campaign.
Sloan scored 10 points at the NCAA Championship meet to give the Lyons their highest point total at the title meet since they tallied 26 points in 2010. Wheaton finished 21st in the nation at the NCAA Championship.
