Men's Track and Field

Men's Track & Field Places School-Record Six Members on USTFCCCA All-Region Squad

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field members John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.), Travis C. James (Hamden, Conn.), Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine), Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.), Scott Sloan (Barrington, R.I.) and Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-East Region Team, it was announced by the USTFCCCA.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each member of the region's top-3 relay teams. The regions used for this award – East, Great Lakes, Metro, Mid-Atlantic, Mideast, Midwest, Niagara, North, South, and West – match those used during the cross country season.

The six honorees for the Lyons are the most ever in school history since the USTFCCCA began recognizing All-Region student-athletes in 2016. Peterson earns All-Region status for the third time after being named All-Region for the 100-meter dash in 2022 and the 200 meters in 2024.

Peterson becomes the first competitor in program history to earn All-Region accolades in multiple events. The senior earned the moniker for the 100 and 200 meters, in addition to the 4X100-meter relay.

Peterson was consistently good in the 100 meters all season for Wheaton, placing among the top five in all but one race, while crossing the finish line first on two occasions. He also registered two victories in the 200 meters during the campaign. The Marshwood High School product clocked in at 21.38 – the fastest time in the region – to finish first at the Sean Collier Invitational and break the school record in the event on April 19 at host Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. During the same meet, he also established a personal-record mark of 10.61 to finish third in the 100 meters with the second-fastest time in program history and the fourth-best mark in the region. He nearly matched his school-record time, while winning the 200 meters at the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass. on May 10.

Pinnix got stronger as the season progressed, eclipsing his season-best mark in the 110-meter hurdles six straight times for the Lyons. The senior ultimately broke the school record in the preliminaries of the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Championship on April 25, before shattering the program standard again the following day in the conference finals with a time of 14.39 to win silver in the event and earn Second Team All-Conference accolades. His time was the fourth-fastest in the region for the season. A graduate of Manchester High School, Pinnix won the 110-meter hurdles twice during the season and racked up eight top-five efforts.

Sloan boasted the region's fourth-best toss in the javelin throw during his rookie season. The first year burst onto the scene by winning the javelin with a school-record heave of 62.49 meters at the Sean Collier Invitational. The Wheeler School product shattered the Wheaton mark again just a week later when he recorded a throw of 66.53 to win the NEWMAC Championship in the event and establish a new conference record as well as a MHC Track & Turf Facility record at host Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. Sloan remained undefeated, in his final meet before the NCAA Division III Championship, with a first-place showing at the F.I.R.E. meet on May 9.

Peterson anchored the Lyons' 4X100-meter relay team following James, Vera and Dowgiert. The quartet turned in a season-best time of 41.31 for the third-fastest time in the region and a second-place finish at the New England Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship at host United States Coast Guard Academy on May 3 in New London, Conn. The mark was also the third-fastest in school annals. The meet signified the first time that combination of runners raced together for Wheaton. Peterson had run in all but one meet in the 4X100 relay for the Lyons, while Dowgiert, Vera and Peterson teamed in two previous races together, including the NEWMAC Championship, where they placed third with first year Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine). Wheaton's 4X100 relay boasted five top-four finishes during the season, including a victory at the BSU Bears Invitational hosted by Bridgewater State University on April 11.
