ATLANTA, Ga. — Junior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) broke the school record for the 1500 meters and placed first in the race to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team today at the Emory Dooley Elite Meet at Woodruff PE Center Stadium in Atlanta, Ga.
The Lyons scored 58 points in the meet to place fifth, while host Emory University claimed the team crown with 182 points.
Hillier posted a time of 3:56.15 to eclipse the former Wheaton 1500 mark of 3:57.04 set by Terry Panetta in 2004. His time currently ranks 29th in NCAA Division III and qualifies him for the New England Division III Championship. Senior Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) placed 11th in the race with a time of 4:12.37. In addition, Hillier finished 15th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.64.
Senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) posted a personal-record time of 14.81 to win the 110-meter hurdles and establish the fourth-fastest mark in the event in school history. The time also qualifies him for the New England Championship meet for the Lyons. In addition, Pinnix placed second in the triple jump with a leap of 12.54 meters for the seventh-best mark in program annals.
Wheaton sophomore Cam Cross-Chinn (Newport, R.I.) registered a distance of 52.47 meters in the javelin throw to finish second and rank as the 69th-best toss in Division III this season.
Junior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) finished as the runner-up in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:12.28 for the Lyons.
First year Gavin Landry (Westbrook, Maine) placed fourth with a time of 15.47, which also qualified him to run in the 110-meter hurdles at the New England Division III Championship. Classmate Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) finished ninth in the event with a personal-best time of 16.32. Wright was 11th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.63 for Wheaton, while Landry finished 15th in the race with a mark of 1:02.52.
Senior Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) placed fifth in the 100 meters with a time of 10.81, which ranks 27th in NCAA Division III, while first year Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) finished 11th in the race with a time of 11.00, which is the 93rd-fastest in NCAA III and qualifies him, along with Peterson, for the Division III New England Championship. Vera also finished 14th in the 200 meters with a time of 22.45 for the Lyons.
Senior John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.) turned in a time of 50.61 to finish sixth in the 400 meters and first year Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) was right behind him at 50.79 to place seventh for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to action on Saturday, April 12 when they head to Northampton, Mass. to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational.
