WALTHAM, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team placed sixth as a team today at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational hosted by Brandeis University at Gosman Sports and Convocation Center in Waltham, Mass.
The Lyons tallied 29 points, while Worcester Polytechnic Institute racked up 170.5 points to place first among the field.
Senior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) finished third for Wheaton with a time of 8:42.88 in the 3000 meters, while sophomore Gavin Landry (Sebago, Maine) placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a mark of 8.74. First year Nolan Bushnell (Rochester, Mass.) turned in the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 1000 meters with a clip of 2:38.44 to finish fifth for the Lyons.
Wheaton placed third in the 4X400-meter relay with a time of 3:30.27 behind sophomore Harrison Page (South Berwick, Maine), junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.), first year Tyler Lamonde (Swansea, Mass.) and sophomore Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Mass.) for the Lyons.
Wheaton's field athletes made their mark on the day for the Lyons. Senior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 5.96 meters. Junior Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) led Wheaton's throwers with a personal-record heave of 12.74 meters for the fifth-best mark in school history and a fifth-place effort in the meet. Junior Logan Quinn (Portsmouth, R.I.) led the weight throw group with a sixth-place effort behind a toss of 12.85 meters. First year Nick Barbee (Manchester, N.H.) made his collegiate debut with the ninth-best mark in school history, placing 10th with a throw of 11.32 meters, while sophomore Kieran Templeton (Glens Falls, N.Y.) posted a mark of 11.27 meters to rank as the 10th-furthest distance in program annals and 11th at the meet.
Lamonde made his collegiate track debut for the Lyons with a time of 7.26 to place 12th in the 60 meters, while first year Liam Reagan (Scarborough, Maine) made his debut with a 13th-place effort in the 500 meters on a time of 1:11.19. First year Thomas Sargent (Bow, N.H.) finished 14th in the mile in his first collegiate race with a time of 4:56.31 and senior Dante Marciano (Bristol, Conn.) led Wheaton in the 300 meters with a personal-record time of 39.85 to finish 24th.
The Lyons return to action on Friday, January 23 when they host the Lyon Invitational at Beard Field House at 5:00 p.m.
