NORTON, Mass. — Senior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) and first year Tyler Lamonde (Swansea, Mass.) each won races to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track and field team this evening at the Lyon Invitational at host Wheaton's Beard Field House in Norton, Mass.
The Lyons tallied 45 points to place fifth for the meet, while Worcester Polytechnic Institute racked up 131 points to place first.
Hillier finished just shy of his personal-best time with a mark of 4:19.64 for Wheaton, while Lamonde turned in a winning mark of 23.47 in the 200 meters for his first collegiate win.
In addition to Hillier's top effort, five other Lyons posted personal-record times in the mile. Sophomore Dan McIntyre (Keene, N.H.) placed 12th with his best of 4:37.63, while first year Thomas Sargent (Bow, N.H.) posted a mark of 4:42.30 to finish 15th. Sophomore Nathan Pires (Yarmouth, Maine) continued the theme of personal-record times with a 4:42.88 effort to finish 16th and classmate Finn Morris (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) shaved time off his best with a clip of 4:49.68 to finish 20th. Senior Lucas MacKenzie (Saint Albans, Vt.) clocked in with a personal-mark of 4:53.42.
Junior Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) bolstered the 200 for Wheaton with Lamonde, placing third with a time of 23.88 and was 12th in the pole vault with the 10th-best height in program history at 3.15 meters. Sophomore Gavin Landry (Sebago, Maine) was also a third-place finisher with a personal-record time of 8.51 in the 60-meter hurdles for the sixth-best mark in program history. Sophomore Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) finished eighth in the race with a time of 9.30. Sophomore Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) joined Smith and Landry with a third-place effort for the night, clocking in at 52.37 in the 400 meters. Sophomore Harrison Page (South Berwick, Maine) finished fifth in the race with a mark of 52.99.
First year Nolan Bushnell (Rochester, Mass.) finished fourth for the Lyons in the 800 meters with a mark of 2:00.75, while classmate Kayden Chhoun (Wilbraham, Mass.) was ninth with a time of 2:06.69. First year Will Doyle (Milton, Mass.) placed ninth to lead Wheaton in the 5000 meters with a mark of 16:41.92.
Senior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) was the Lyons' best jumper with a leap of 5.87 meters to place seventh in the long jump.
Senior Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) arrested the third-best heave in program history in the shot put with a distance of 13.13 meters to place sixth. First year Nick Barbee (Manchester, N.H.) also improved his mark among Wheaton's best throwers with a toss of 11.95 meters for the eighth-best figure in school history and a 12th-place showing. Sophomore Kieran Templeton (Glens Falls, N.Y.) bettered his weight throw mark that has him 10th in school annals with a distance of 11.49 meters to finish 17th, while junior Logan Quinn (Portsmouth, R.I.) registered a personal-record mark of 10.23 meters to place 23rd in the event.
The Lyons' mixed relay finished second behind junior Jessie Dickson (Southbury, Conn.), first year Josy Wright (Sharon, Mass.), junior Maya Thomas (Goffstown, N.H.) and Greenleaf, combining on a time of 3:46.26.
Wheaton returns to action on Friday, January 30 when it competes at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University.
