MARLBOROUGH, Mass. – Four Wheaton College (Mass.) student-athletes have been named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference 2024-25 Winter All-Sportsmanship Team, it was announced by the NEWMAC.
The award is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each institution in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.
Sophomore men's swimmer Jadyn Arnold (Oakland, Maine), senior women's basketball player Abby Fernandes (Assonet, Mass.), junior women's swimmer Garin Stone (Barrington, R.I.) and senior men's basketball player Tarmo Tari (Chelmsford, Mass.) were all selected to the team for the Lyons.
Arnold placed 13th in the 100-yard backstroke, 16th in the 200-yard backstroke and 19th in the 200-yard butterfly at the NEWMAC Championship in February. Fernandes started all 13 games, before missing the remainder of the season with an injury. She averaged 11.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game and also netted her 1000th career point and finished with 1,001. Stone competed at the NCAA Championship in the 500, 200 and 100-yard freestyle events and placed second in both the 500 and 200-yard freestyle in addition to finishing fifth in the 100-yard freestyle at the NEWMAC Championship. Tari saw action in 12 games, while making one start after missing time due to injury. He averaged 1.0 points and 1.1 rebounds per game.
