DuBrow '20 Named Interim Men's Basketball Head Coach

NORTON, Mass. – Alex DuBrow '20 has been named Interim Head Coach for the Men's Basketball program at Wheaton College (Mass.), it was announced today by Interim Director of Athletics, Lisa Yenush.

DuBrow becomes the fourth Head Coach in Wheaton College men's basketball history. Former Head Coach Brian Walmsley transitioned from the program's mentor to his current role as Senior Assistant Athletic Director.

"Promoting from within is always a powerful statement – and Alex has earned this opportunity through dedication and a deep commitment to our student-athletes, the athletics department and Wheaton College," explained Yenush. "He is a natural leader who has already built tremendous respect within the team dynamic and within our staff. I am confident he will make an immediate impact on the program."

"I couldn't be more excited to lead this group," interjected DuBrow. "I'm incredibly grateful to Lisa Yenush and Coach Walmsley for believing in me and trusting me to guide this team. I bleed Wheaton blue and can't wait for the season to get going!"

DuBrow spent the past two seasons as Walmsley's top Assistant Coach as was part of the staff that was named the New England Women's & Men's Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Coaching Staff of the Year following the 2023-24 campaign. DuBrow was part of a staff that directed Wheaton to a 15-10 overall record, including 10-2 at home and 9-6 in the league, despite being voted seventh in the NEWMAC pre-season coaches poll that year and returning just 28% of the team's scoring from the previous season. DuBrow was instrumental in helping to guide that young team to a home playoff berth as the number three seed, while ranking 33rd in the nation with just 65.7 points allowed per game.

The former guard has spearheaded the recruiting effort for the Lyons over the past year, and last season helped advance the development of Dimetri Iafrate, who was named First Team All-Conference to become the first Wheaton sophomore to be honored on the First Team since 2009.

Along with the Lyons' success on the court, they have also been very good in the classroom during DuBrow's time on the sidelines for Wheaton. The Lyons boasted a school-record total of seven student-athletes named to the NEWMAC Academic All-Conference Team in each of the last two years.

Prior to joining the Wheaton's coaching staff in 2023, DuBrow was a four-year standout for the Lyons from 2016-2020. Despite missing all but five games as a junior for Wheaton, he was still able to finish his career with 324 assists to rank third on the team's all-time assist list.

The former Captain graduated from Wheaton with a degree in Business Administration and Management in 2020 and enjoyed a professional playing career in Israel for the next three years, playing for Maccabi Karmiel for the 2020-21 and 2022-23 campaigns sandwiched around a season with Gilboa Maayanot.

DuBrow gained valuable coaching experience for four summers on the Amateur Athletic Association circuit at the helm of the Take Charge squad in addition to serving as a Development Trainer for Next Movement Training, working with players at the high school level. The former guard also spent time as an instructor for the Boston College legend Sarah Behn's Basketball Camp.

The former Lyon recently earned a Masters degree in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas in the spring of 2023.
