BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) posted the third-fastest time in school history to win the 110-meter hurdles and both relay squads recorded historic times to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team today at the BSU Bears Invitational at the Edward C. Swenson Athletic Complex in Bridgewater, Mass.
Pinnix logged a time of 14.76 to place first in the 110 hurdles for the Lyons. First year Gavin Landry (Westbrook, Maine) finished third in the race with a time of 15.52 and first year Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) was sixth with a personal-record time of 16.31. Wheaton's 4X100-meter relay was outstanding, recording a time of 41.46 to win the event and rank as the fourth-fastest relay time in program history. The mark also places the Lyon quartet 16th in all of NCAA Division III. First year Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) was followed by classmate Aidan Greenleaf (Topsham, Maine) and seniors John Dowgiert (Methuen, Mass.) and Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine). Wheaton's 4X400-meter relay also made its mark, placing first, while turning in the eighth-fastest mark in school history. The same four were responsible for the noteworthy time. Dowgiert, Vera, Greenleaf and Peterson combined on the time that also places them 42nd in NCAA Division III.
Sophomore Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 1.65 meters and added a sixth-place effort to his day in the long jump after a leap of 5.90 meters for the Lyons.
Wright continued his presence in the hurdles for Wheaton, placing sixth in the 400-meter race with a time of 1:00.84.
Junior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) placed seventh in the 100 meters with a clip of 11.40 to lead the Lyons in the event. Senior Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) finished ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.91, followed by first year Travis C. James (Hamden, Conn.) with a personal-best mark of 23.10 to place 11th. Mualis was 14th in the race at 23.30 and Pinnix posted a personal-record time of 23.55 to finish 15th. Junior Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.) and classmate Nathan Plympton (East Greenwich, R.I.) also recorded personal-bests in the event with respective times of 23.81 (20th) and 23.86 (21st). Senior Will Singer (Los Angeles, Calif.) clocked in at 24.55 to finish 24th for Wheaton.
The Lyons return to action tomorrow when they travel to Northampton, Mass. to compete in the Carla Coffey Invitational at host Smith College at 11:00 a.m.
