BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) broke the school record and placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Track & Tennis Center on the BU campus in Boston, Mass.
Pinnix turned in a mark of 8.25 to nip the former mark of 8.26 set by Howard Powell '10 at the USA Track & Field New England Championship at Harvard University's Gordon Indoor Track on February 21, 2010.
Junior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) clocked in at 4:18.26 with the second-fastest mile time in school history to finish 283rd for the Lyons among the field of NCAA Division I, II, III and unattached club runners.
Wheaton senior Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) finished 18th among the elite invited 200-meter field with a time of 21.85, while first year Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) finished 12th in the preliminaries of the 60 meters.
Senior Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) led five Lyons with personal-record times in the open 200 meters, notching a mark of 22.95 to finish 78th, while sophomore Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) turned in a personal-best time of 23.07 to place 88th. First year Travis C. James (Hamden, Conn.) posted his best at 23.19 to finish 97th and first year Gavin Landry (Westbrook, Maine) was 123rd with a personal-record mark of 23.82. First year Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) registered his top time of 23.89 in an effort to place 128th in the race.
Wheaton recorded three more personal-record times in the 400 meters to give the Lyons 10 for the day. First year Harrison Page (South Berwick, Maine) turned in a personal-record time of 51.48 to finish 85th, before senior Zac Elmasri (Groton, Mass.) finished 94th with a time of 52.22. Junior Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.) placed 100th with a personal-record time of 52.90 and senior Will Singer's (Los Angeles, Calif.) best mark of 53.75 was good for 108th place.
The Lyons return to action tomorrow at the Tufts Stampede Open in Medford, Mass. at 10:00 a.m. on the campus of host Tufts University.
