NORTON, Mass. -- Senior Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine) won the 200 meters and junior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) won the mile run with the third-fastest time in school history and to lead the Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team today at the Wheaton Invitational at Beard Field House on the Wheaton campus in Norton, Mass.
Peterson finished second in the 60 meters with a mark of 6.98 to also rank as the second-fastest in program history and stand as the 76th-best mark in NCAA Division III this season and boasted a time of 22.37 in the 200 meters. Hillier topped the mile field with a personal-record time of 4:20.21. He was one of 10 Lyons on the day to set personal-best marks.
Wheaton senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) turned in the second-fastest time in school annals to place second in the 60-meter hurdles, while first year Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) was fifth in the race with a mark of 9.12 and sophomore Kevin Smith (Norfolk, Mass.) placed sixth with a season-best time of 9.16. First year Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) continues to impress after a third-place showing in the 60 meters that saw him post a personal-record time of 7.02 to tie for the fifth-fastest clip in school history.
Junior Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.) joined Hillier with a stellar effort in the mile, notching a personal-record time of 4:42.39 to place fifth, while first year Dan McIntyre (Keene, N.H.) placed seventh with a time of 4:43.51. Senior Noah White (Winchester, Mass.) also added to an impressive showing for the Lyons' distance contingent, finishing fourth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:19.17. First year Nathan Pires (Yarmouth, Maine) finished eighth with a personal-best mark of 9:35.82 in the race.
Wheaton was strong in the 200 meters, led by senior Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) with a time of 23.22 to place fifth, while junior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) was sixth with a season-best mark of 23.48 and first year Travis C. James (Hamden, Conn.) finished 10th at 23.88.Â
Sophomore Logan Quinn (Portsmouth, R.I.) turned in the top showing for the Lyons' throwers, finishing 11th in the weight throw with a mark of 12.04 meters, while first year Kieran Templeton (Glens Falls, N.Y.) recorded a toss of 9.59 meters to place 18th in the event. First year Scott Sloan (Barrington, R.I.) finished 16th in the shot put with a heave of 12.03 meters and junior Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) arrested a season-best distance of 11.84 meters to finish 18th in the shot put.
Wheaton returns to action on February 7 for the first day of The Showdown at the Heights, hosted by Boston College at The Track at New Balance in Boston, Mass.
