Men's Track & Field Wins 4X200-Meter Relay at Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. — The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's track & field team saw its 4X200-meter relay post the ninth-fastest time in school history and finish first at the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational hosted by Brandeis University at the Auerbach Center in Waltham, Mass.

The Lyons tallied 50.25 points to finish sixth in the meet, while University of Massachusetts Dartmouth compiled 128 points to lead the 10-team field.

Junior GJ Mualis (Taunton, Mass.) was joined by first years Gael Vera (Westminster, Mass.) and Gavin Landry (Westbrook, Maine) and senior Kelvin Peterson (Eliot, Maine ) to combine on a time of 1:31.93 for the fastest time in the field. 

Senior Jordan Pinnix (Manchester, Conn.) also posted a first-place effort with a time of 8.41 to win the 60-meter hurdles for Wheaton. Landry recorded a personal-record time of 8.83 to place fifth in the event, while fellow first year Joshua Wright (Gorham, Maine) also registered a personal-best mark of 8.95 to finish sixth.

Peterson finished third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.07 and Vera was sixth with a personal-record mark of 7.16. Vera's outstanding day concluded with a 10-place showing in the high jump with a lift of 1.75 meters.

Junior Kai Hillier (Hinesburg, Vt.) led the Lyons' distance contingent with a time of 8:58.34 to place fourth in the 3000 meters, ahead of classmate Nick Lacroix (Bedford, N.H.), who clocked in at 9:17.05 to finish 10th in the event.

First year Dan McIntyre (Keene, N.H.) was Wheaton's top performer in the 1000 meters with a personal-record time of 2:49.54 to place 10th, while senior Ryan Ventura (South Easton, Mass.) and junior Aris Giatrakos (Stoughton, Mass.) finished 15th and 16th, respectively, in the 300 meters. Ventura posted a time of 38.46, while Giatrakos' mark of 38.54 was a personal-best. 

Sophomore Logan Quinn (Portsmouth, R.I.) was part of a stellar effort for the Lyons' field athletes, placing third in the weight throw with a toss of 13.40 meters to represent the fourth-best mark in school annals. First year Scott Sloan (Barrington, R.I.) made his collegiate debut memorable with a heave of 12.80 to claim sixth place in the shot put, while also putting him sixth all-time at Wheaton. Junior Griffen Copp (Littleton, Mass.) grabbed 11th place in the event with a distance of 11.84 meters.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday, January 25 when they host the Lyon Invitational at Beard Field House in Norton, Mass. at 11:00 a.m.
