Men's Water Polo Defeated by Penn State Behrend, 24-4

SHERMAN, Texas -- The Wheaton College (Mass.) men's water polo team was defeated by Pennsylvania State University Behrend, 24-4, this morning as part of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation East Divisional at Hannah Natatorium on the campus of host Austin College.

The Lyons fall to 0-12, while the Lions improve to 6-15.

Penn State Behrend out-shot Wheaton, 38-16. 

First year utility player Spyros Rapsomanikis (Kerkyra, Greece) netted a pair of goals and added 10 steals for the Lyons, while first year 2M defender Jack Ruggiero (Hamden, Conn.) scored twice and added an assist and two steals. First year goalie Dylan Boccali (Ventura, Calif.) stopped 10 shots for Wheaton.

First year Nick Thompson (Hudsonville, Mich.) and senior utility Connor Bradley (Collegeville, Pa.) led all scorers for the Lions with six goals. Thompson also came up with a steal and Bradley registered three thefts. First year center defender Dylan Hayslip (Flower Mound, Texas) found the back of the net three times and made five steals. Junior goalie Ethan Friedman (Valley Center, Calif.) recorded 10 saves, while first year keeper Andy Zhuri (Houston, Texas) turned away seven shots.

Penn State Behrend scored the first 14 goals of the game, including all six goals in the first quarter and seven in the second period. Bradley fueled the opening offensive outburst with five markers.

Rapsomanikis put the Lyons on the board with 5:48 to play in the third quarter to make it 14-1.

Frist year utility player Freddy Browarski (Austin, Texas) scored at 4:56 for the Lions, before Ruggiero netted Wheaton's second goal of the match. 

Penn State tallied the next five goals to increase its cushion to 20-2 with 5:50 remaining in the contest. Rapsomanikis countered just 22 seconds later and Ruggiero followed to give Wheaton back-to-back goals and cut the margin to 20-4 with 4:09 to play in the game. The Lions scored the final four goals of the afternoon, including two from Thompson to set the final.
